Thomasina Bateman, an antiquarian is currently writing a book on the history of barrows in England. It’s a record of the treasures that she discovers in. A fascinating letter prompts her to explore the tiny village of Bewlay located in rural England. She departs on a train and her companion on the following day.
At the time of her arrival the man mysteriously summoned her is nowhere to be located. Her assistant never arrives. Landowners who are obstinately opposed to access to the barrow, and locals are suspicious of the lady who is going on her own, also (gasp!) wears trousers.
